Large Magellanic Cloud Bar: Evidence of a Warped Bar
نویسنده
چکیده
The geometry of the LMC bar is studied using the dereddened mean magnitudes of the red clump stars ( ) I0 from the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment II catalog. The value of is found to vary in the east-west I0 direction such that both the east and the west end of the bar are closer to us with respect to the center of the bar. The maximum observed variation has a statistical significance of more than 7.6 j with respect to the maximum value of random error. The variation in indicates the presence of warp in the bar of the LMC. The warp and I0 the structures seen in the bar indicate that the bar could be a dynamically disturbed structure. Evidence of a Misaligned Secondary Bar in the Large Magellanic Cloud
Evidence of a misaligned secondary bar, within the primary bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), is presented. The density distribution and the dereddened mean magnitudes ( ) of the red clump stars in the bar I0 obtained from the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment II data are used for this study. The bar region that predominantly showed a wavy pattern in the line of sight in a recent p...

Recent observations on structural properties of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) based on the Deep Near-Infrared Southern Sky Survey (DENIS) and Two Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) have revealed that the LMC has an off-center bar even in the older stellar populations. Previous dynamical models including tidal interaction between the LMC, the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), and the Galaxy, however, ...
متن کاملThe Case of the Off-center, Levitating Bar in the Large Magellanic Cloud
I explore the hypothesis that many of the unusual aspects of the apparent stellar bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud are the result of viewing a triaxial stellar bulge that is embedded in a highly obscuring thin disk. Specifically, this hypothesis explains the observed off-center position of the bar within the disk, the differing apparent distances of the bar and disk, the near alignment of the ...

متن کاملReddening map of the Large Magellanic Cloud bar region
E(V − I) reddening values for 1123 locations in the bar region of the Large Magellanic Cloud are presented. V , I photometry of red clump stars identified in the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment II catalogue of LMC were used to estimate reddening. E(V − I) values were estimated as the difference between observed and the characteristic values of (V − I) for the red clump population in a ...
